The short version
Most senior-care and placement services are free to families because the facilities pay them a commission, which means families are usually shown only homes that pay. NursingHomeLens was built to be the opposite. It gathers the official government inspection, staffing, penalty, and ownership records for every Medicare-certified nursing home in the country, roughly 15,000 of them, and presents them in plain English. It takes no money from facilities, it does not rank or recommend, and it sells no leads. It shows families the record so they can decide for themselves.
Facts on the record
- All data comes from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), refreshed nightly and dated on every page.
- Free facility pages for every certified nursing home. A paid Decision Pack and optional monitoring fund the work.
- No money is taken from facilities. No advertising, no sponsored placement, no referral fees.
- The star ratings shown are CMS's Five-Star ratings, not ours. We do not issue ratings.
- Operated by MarkAlarm LLC dba NursingHomeLens.
Story angles
- The conflict of interest in “free” senior placement services, and what families can do about it.
- How to read a nursing home's official inspection record, and what the government data does and does not tell you.
- Payroll-based staffing data: what the numbers reveal about weekend and overnight care.
